Haggadah: The Hand of HaShem
by: Batya Japhet
In Chumash Shemos (6:1), HaShem says to Moses, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh, for by a strong hand shall he let them go, and by a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land."
In Chumash Devarim (26:8), it says, "HaShem brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, with great awe, with signs, and with wonders."
What is this "mighty hand?"
The "mighty hand" refers to the plague of murrain (Dever), in which the cattle died. We can see that this is so, because in the beginning of that plague it says, "Behold the hand of HaShem shall strike your cattle which are in the field, etc." This shows us the strength of HaShem's hand.
